Ängelholm is actually an old danish town and the buildings looks like old danish.
This is laxgatan(the salmon street) in the center of Aengelholm. And if you look at the houses just on the other side of Kattegatt they look similar.
Angelholm got their city rights in 1611 by the danish king Christian the 2nd. Angelholm remained danish til the swedish king Charles X won the war in 1658. Sweden then got Skåne(Skaone), Halland and Blekinge. The inhabitants here where quite lucky during their time with the danes and was not happy the way the suedes treat them. Therefore the suedes from the south formed a kind of gerilla called snapphanarna(snapcocks) and started making the life hard for all the swedish troups here. When swedish troups after hard struggles manage capturing some of the snapphanes they tortured them and cut them apart just to scare the population here. Read more about them in press.skane.org>>>
In this little city you got a nice cosy library where you find a lot of documentation about their old history. You also got a lot of librarians who could tell you about older ages here. This oak on the picture where find when the railway needed a new bridge over the creek in the village. This is actually the oldest oak found in Sweden. The C14 shows that the oak died 5400 BC and is then 7500 years old.
If you walk a couple of hundred meters towards the sea you pass the railway museum. Well worth a visit. They got 2 old locomotives indoors, a lot of stories about how the railroad where built and driven the last centuries. You should also try the train-simulator where you are able to see and feel the difference between train by the 1900, in the 50ies and latest train.
With the railroad came the telegraph and telephone. So you also got an interesting exhibition on the 2nd floor about the development of communications between the railwaystations. Another thing that changed was the time in Sweden. In the early 1800 the time in Stockholm where 12:24 while it in Gothenburg where 12:00.
